Our quiet run of voters continued with us failing to get 50 voters in the last three competitions. There are 370+ people on the Email Reminder List, which means only 10-13% actually vote. Let's hope things improve as the year goes on. Despite this, it was a good competition with some categories easily won and some closely fought. Nine people won 14 awards, with four getting more than one award. |
I was not altogether surprised to see Zoran jump into the early lead, with his great (if rather sexist) anagram. Zoran was 11 points clear at 12 hours, opening that up to 22 ahead by 24 hours. As usual in this category, the minor places were tightly contested, with Mey, Rick and Matjaz all in good position. The last 24 hours saw Toby finish strongly to make it into second place and narrow Zoran's winning margin. This was Zoran's first award for more than a year. It brings his total to 18. Tony's third place award makes his career total 28.

1 | Zoran Radisavlevic | 48 | Female persons = Pleasers of men. |
2 | Toby Gottfried | 33 | Unsolicited commercial emails = Mad, malicious, electronic slime. |
3 | Tony Crafter | 23 | Police cadet = Delicate cop. |
4 | Mey Kraus | 21 | The Immaculate Conception = Pathetic cult... I mean, come ON! |
5 | View | 19 | Tip for ~ profit. |
This was quite close at the start and at the end of the competition. Mey and View were just two points apart at the 12 hour mark. By the end of Day One, Mey was suddenly 11 points ahead. Don finished strongly and came with one point of an upset win. |
1 | Mey Kraus | 42 | Ang Lee's film 'Brokeback Mountain' ~ about menial farm blokes necking. |
2 | Don Rogers | 41 | Captain (Admiral) James Tiberius Kirk = In Star Trek, Jim said, "I lack air! Beam up!" |
3 | View | 34 | The famous animator Walt Disney = Sweet author of tiny, mad animals. |
This was a walk-over for Scott. By the 12 hour mark, he was 13 points clear of Mey. That lead steadily increased to a whopping 34 point margin by the end. |
1 | Scott Gardner | 72 | The West Virginia coal mine disaster = It is twelve deaths in a grim scenario. |
2 | Mey Kraus | 38 | Oscar nominations unveiled = Movies' list announced on-air. |
3 | Tony Crafter | 32 | Hamas triumphs in Palestinian elections = Oh man, this result is insane. Panic time, pal! |
This was a close two-horse race. Mey and Tony were tied half way through Day One. Mey was one point ahead of Tony at both the 24 and 48 hour mark, but polled better in the final 24 hours to come home eight points clear. |
1 | Mey Kraus | 55 | The Israeli PM Ariel Sharon = He's in mortal peril, as I hear. |
2 | Tony Crafter | 47 | Saddam Hussein Abd al-Majid al-Tikriti = Is a jailbird madman that disliked USA. |
3 | Rosie Perera | 35 | Canada's new Prime Minister, Stephen Harper = This deep man renews American partnership. |
David predicted success for me here, but experience has made me doubt his judgement. However, this month he was spot on. I was 16 points ahead halfway through the first day, getting to 27 points clear by the end of Day Two. Tony narrowed that margin in the last 24 hours. |
1 | Larry Brash | 59 | United States of America = Deem it as an utter fiasco. |
2 | Tony Crafter | 35 | Southern Beirut = Is burnt-out here. |
3 | View | 30 | South American countries = He came to tour Incas ruins. |
Scott had only two nominations this month and both were excellent. This win here was not as spectacular as his win in Topical. It was close between Scott and Mey for the first two days, but Scott polled well near the end for a modest but definite win. Scott's two wins this month, bring him up to 19 all-up. |
1 | Scott Gardner | 56 | Best actress nominees: |
2 | Mey Kraus | 47 | "Do tell me", I asked president George W. Bush, "What's your honest opinion of Roe v. Wade?"
= |
3 | Tony Crafter | 40 | Terror group Hamas wins at the Palestinian elections = |
My prediction here was for a win by Toby, but he had to earn it the hard way in a close contest with Mey. Mey led out by a small margin on Day One. Toby caught and just passed him by 24 hours and hung on well for seven point victory. A successful month for Toby with two wins, giving him an all-time haul of 23 awards. |
1 | Toby Gottfried | 47 | Six Jewish gentlemen were once playing poker in their condo's rec room, and one of them bet and los... |
2 | Mey Kraus | 40 | A Little Fun With Math 1. Pick any n... = The Freudian Magic Trick 1. Be tota... |
3 | Tony Crafter | 35 | A paranormal researcher was giving a ta... = A union rep, checking on a farmer thou... |
My hot favourite in this category was Mike with yet another brilliant combination of literature and mathematics. Somewhat surprisingly, Mey and I were the early leaders. Mike joined Mey in the lead by the end of the first 24 hours and crept into the lead in the last few hours. I was delighted with a third place award. Mike's success here gives him a total of 33 wins. Mey now has 234 awards to his credit with three awards this month. My two awards give me 97 on the All-Time Table. |
1 | Mike Keith | 51 | 5 anagrammed poems |
2 | Mey Kraus | 44 | Oscar Wilde's sonnet 'E Tenebris' |
3 | Larry Brash | 40 | Twelve Days day of Christmas |
4 | Tony Crafter | 17 | 'HAPPY NEW YEAR' by ABBA |
5 | Matjaz P | 7 | Don't think twice, it's all right |
This was certainly one of the most closely contested categories this month. David and I were tied after 12 hours. I had a tiny one-point lead by the end of Day One, with me thinking I might win three awards this month. However, it was not to be. David moved in to the lead by the last 24 hours, but a fast finishing from aussie battler pipped him at the post. This was aussie battler's first win in the Anagrammies. Congratulations! |
1 | aussie battler | 31 | Fat lords = Old farts. |
2 | David Bourke | 30 | The Europeans = One up the arse. |
3 | dupe | 25 | Anal suppository = Oral? No. Up ass. Pity. |
There were two contenders for this award this month. Don in Entertainment and David in Rude missed an a award by just one point each. I think I would have picked Don's if he had been able to get Captain Kirk to say "Beam me up". However, I particularly like David's shorter and funnier anagram. I do not usually give this award to Rude category entrants, but I made an exception this month.
David's win here gives him 76 awards in total. |
Congratulations to all the winners. Thank you all for voting.
