The Anagrammy Results for December 2003

Anagrammy Awards > Results Page

47 voters - very good turnout. We have averaged 40 voters per month this year, which makes it our most successful year so far.

Another interesting fact is that they were 28 competitors this month, the best this year and well ahead of the usual 16-18 regulars.

The Grand Aanagrammy Awards for 2003 will be on soon, now that the last batch of winners has been to add to the list. For those new to the Grand Anagrammies, all the first place winners in the standard categories will be eligible to compete in this one-a-year event. Voters will also be asked to vote for the Best Overall Short and Long Anagrams, and the Best Anagram Software and Website. There are also several Awrdsmaster's Choice Awards.

General Category - 1st three win an award.

Mey was the leader on Day One after the first 23 votes. However by the end of Day Two, Hans-Peter opened a narrow lead. He gradually pulled well clear of Mey.

Third place was hotly contested by several competitors, including Joe, Richard G, sundogg, View and JB. By the end of voting Richard had third place. However, he has generously given it to Joe, as he considered Joe's anagram to be superior to his. I agree with his decision and support this move.

Hans-Peter's win was his fifth this year, amd his seventh all up.

Rude Category

Initially, David asked us to move his rude anagram into General, as he lacked one there this month. However, we convinced him to move it back there, not because it was rude, but because of its greater chance of winning the Rude.

Our faith in his anagram was well-founded. It won easily.

Christmas Category

We decide to run all Christmas-themed anagrams in their own category. It was certainly a great contest with the top eight place-getters spread over just 11 points

Jesse led out over JB and Adrian. JB and Jesse shared the lead the next day. Adrian passed both of them on Day Three and led by the smallest margin. He finished just two points ahead with the minor palcegetters moving in all directions.

Long Category

A bigger than usual field with eight starters.

I had a small hope that I had a chance here, but it was clear by the end of the first day that Adrian was going to win comfortably. This he did with minimal pressure from Allan and I.

Two wins for Adrian this month give him 12 this year and 37 on the All Time Table.

Special Category - 1st three win an award.

Profanity beat Poetry here this month!

Here was little doubt among the regulars the Richard G was the likely winner here before the competition started. The questions was how big a win would it be. "Huge" was the voter's unsurprising answer.

Third place was well contested by Joe and Richard B, with the former making it by just one point.

Richard's win took him to 18 for the year and 130 all-up. David's two awards brought 11 wins for the year and and 48 on the All Time Table. Joe also had two wins, giving him a total of nine wins, moving him up to 18th postion.
