The Anagrammy Awards Results - February, 2007

Finally.... here are the results of February 2007's competition! My apologies for the delay... again.

Voting numbers were down to 37, but it was pleasing to see how busy the Forum has been with the appearance of a couple of new members and the reappearance of some old members.

Nine members shared the 15 awards, with Tony dominating with five awards.

GENERAL:

This was one of the closer General Category results. Usually one or two members break clear and the interest is usually about who will win the third place award. Any one of 6-7 members could have won an award here.

Tony led at 12 hours, but didn't finish in the top five at the end of the event. Neil and Mey were in second place at 12 hours, with Rick and Andrew closely following. At 24 hours, Adrian jumped into the lead with Rick, with Mey, David and Tony within two points of the lead. By the end of Day Two, Adrian was still leading with Andrew moving up to second place, with Mey, Rick and Tony jostling for third.

On the final day, the field finally spread out, with Andrew sneaking home by two points over Adrian, who was five ahead of Mey.

Adrian's second place award brought his all time total to 60.

ENTERTAINMENT:

Mey was the early leader here at 12 and 24 hours, with Neil, Rick and Adie not far behind. Adie broke clear by five points with 24 hours to go and powered home to win by 11 points.

Adie has been a great addition to the Forum, quickly becoming the most frequent poster and has won two awards in his first two months.

TOPICAL:

Some of the best short anagrams in the Archives have been discovered by View. This is up there with the best.

View was ahead by nine points half way through Day One and I suspected that he would open this lead further. However, Tony kept fairly close and View won by five points at the close of voting.

View has now won 15 awards. This moves him into the Top Twenty on the All Time Table.

OTHER NAMES:

This was quite a close event this month.

Rick led by one point at the 12 hour mark from View with Neil and myself a further two points back. Mey moved up and took the lead by 24 hours. Neil and Rick stayed very close to him, but Mey held on for a four point win with Neil and Rick sharing second place.

Two wins for Mey this month. He has won seven awards this year and 286 all-up.

AWARDSMASTER'S CHALLENGE:

This month's Challenge, set by Tony, was take this poem:

The Passionate Shepherd to His Love
by
Christopher Marlowe

Come live with me and be my Love,
And we will all the pleasures prove
That hills and valleys, dale and field,
And all the craggy mountains yield.

And to then anagram it into a spoof Valentine's Day message to someone.

As not infrequently happens, the challenger won the Challenge. Tony was eight points ahead during the first day, and the minor placings changed hands frequently, with Mey, Adie, Neil and Mike all performing well.

Dear Miss Capulet

Brave damsel I shall leave thee ne'er,
And will speed to thy shy balcony tonight,
When my love I shall as new declare;
PS: It'll help if thou provideth a ladder and a light!

My Love,

Swain Romeo

2

  Mike Mesterton-Gibbons

23

Let every dropped aitch or swallowed vowel be a Cupid's dart
That falls on and lashes Higgins's tame male heart
So happy he'll be, Miss Doolittle, real divine
When you'll have called him "Henry, my Valentine"!

  Neil Ramsay

21

Love's Simple Deed

Rivals plans seem to end it all,
A gun, a pop, a deadly call.

With Chino's bullet in thy chest,
I hold thee to my loving breast.

Love, we never shall despair,
Hold my hand, we're halfway there.

Maria

LONG:

This was quite close for much of the way, with Tony and Rosie swapping or sharing the lead quite frequently.

Rosie was one point ahead with 24 hours left to go, but Tony polled more strongly on the last day to win by six points.

SPECIAL:

Tony really dominated all four of the longer categoires this month. He even managed to win two awards in the Special Category.

On Day One, he was six points ahead of Andrew and also had third place. These positions did not change, but Andrew did very well to get to one point from him on the last day.

Andrew's second place award gave him two awards for the month, three for the year and 14 all-up. He is now in 21st place on the All Time Table.

Tony's brilliant month and five awards pushed him ahead of Mey for this year's number of awards and DFE points. He was won eight awards this year and 62 altogether, He is now in 6th place on the All Time Table.

RUDE:

This was the only category with a runaway winner this month.

Rick has been very strong in this category and his nomination here was always the favourite in my books. He was 15 points clear after 12 hours and finished 22 points ahead at the end of play.

Rick has won 24 awards, nine of them in this category.

AWARDMASTER'S AWARD FOR THE BEST ANAGRAM OF A NON-WINNING AUTHOR

Because the good spread of winners, there were not many contenders for this award this month. I considered Neil's runner-up in Other Name, Mike's second in the Challenge and Rosie's Long placegetter. I usually do not select a long category contender for this award, but given Rosie led at times, I reckon she was the most deserving.

Rosie Perera with:
Bushido

Rosie's win was her third this year and give her a total of 12 altogether. She is now in 23rd place.

Congratulations to all the winners. Thank you all for voting.
